I just wanted to take a chance to talk briefly about where I am with The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Right now, it’s been difficult to finish my entire house. I am doing what the book is suggesting (a weekend at a time), but I have been out-of-town on the weekends or having other pre-planned events. My clothes have been finished for quite a while, including accessories and jewelry; in fact, I took out some more shoes to go in my garage sale pile.
Remaining: other rooms, like kitchen, garage, papers and mementos, and books (not in this order).
I wanted to post this quote to remind everyone to not stress out if you haven’t finished tidying! Remember, you might only have to do this once a year, so sometimes it’s okay to go through a giant haul in the beginning. As we continue our book this month, I want you to think about the obvious quote that made her book famous: “what sparks joy?” Once you start this method, you will never go back to gaining clutter (crap) that you know you won’t use. My personal past favorite: any type of health fairs where they give you FREE stuff. I used to grab tons of papers and ads “just in case I needed to use them later.” But…reality: you might never see those papers in the back of the drawer for the next six months. So why even pick those things up anymore? You are now a decluttering ninja!
This book has taken us TWO months to read, mainly because we don’t want to rush through the tidying process, mmkaay?? You won’t regret it! You WILL want people over to your house, and you will even show off your room and your closet, what people typically hide!
Do any of you all have any before or after photos to share? I’ll start my own capsule closet wardrobe board soon!
